The Black River Girls will miss Gary  / Rhonda &. Peter Smith (Fellow Musician )

On behalf of Gary and Zelma Black and The Black River Girls, we wish to send our condolences. Gary played guitar on many of our country recordings and we always felt blessed by his talent. His professionalism and easy going style made working with him a joy. Producer
Gary Black always hired Gary because  he had his own unique style and always
came up with riffs that no one else would think of. Gary Rudolf was truly original and one of a kind.

The last time I saw Gary was at Jimmy's memorial that he and Debra Lee put together.  I was the bass player for the Dixie Flyers and learned so much from both guitarists.  I'm so fortunate to have worked with you Gary, wherever you are now.  Thank You. Close

WORKHORSE OF THE L.A. COUNTRY MUSIC SCENE  / Michael Dart (fellow musician )

I met Gary about 10 years ago(1996) at a Cowboy Palace Talent Night...He  was playing in the house band with Katie Oyler..I was green and got to sit in for a few and I sang Silver Wings and as I was leaving the bandstand....Gary says to me..."You sang the s%^& out of that song"."call me when you start your band"......I'll never forget that as a statement from a veteran sideman tele-slinger who could've just as well  said something negative or nothing at all.....Gary was the epitome of a WORKHORSE with plenty of guitar licks and the stamina to work every night with whoever and wherever he was playing...just a few months ago I worked with him at Cook's Corner.. He had lost a lot of weight but he played with the attack and fury in his licks like a wild bull on the loose.....Gary... You were a tremendous person as well as a tremendous asset to every band you played in as a core member or a "hired gun"...A lot of guys are picky and choosey about gigs and so forth but you never showed a jaded side and always were a reliable person......You will be sorely missed by everyone!!!!!!!  May you rest in peace brother Gary Rudolph.

Love,

Michael Dart

Man.
I and L.A. just lost a phenomenal Country guitarist.
Gary got me through some of the most boring gigs with his incredible chops.
The last gig I did before moving away from L.A. was with Gary.
I still have a tape of a song that I wrote that Gary was on.
His solo was totally out there. Like Marc Ribot crazy out there.
Whenever I hear it I grin like a fool.
I'm gonna miss you, Gary. Close
